Some experts think that the fight against obesity needs to be a complex, multifaceted program. Others like Dr. James O. Hill, director of the Center for Nutrition at the University of Colorado, think a couple simple changes are the key to fighting obesity.
American adults gain on average two pounds per year. Hill and his colleagues figured out that people would have to consume an excess of 100 calories per day to support this gain. So, we just need to somehow subtract those 100 calories.
The simplest ways, according to Hill, are to walk an extra mile per day or forego a few bites from a meal. Taking the stairs or parking further from your destination are other easy ways to burn more calories, and just taking three fewer bites of a premium burger will also save you 100 calories.
