Are you Hiding or Seeking?
In my book, The Big Picture I talk about Hiders and Seekers as part of Law 8, Get Real.
I believe that there are two kinds of people in this world, the kind that avoid and blame while burying their head in the sand, and the kind that take responsibility, live from self-awareness and are willing to confront and acknowledge challenges.
People that respond in a positive, open way and are honest with themselves are in the Seeker category. The people, who react with fear, hate and don't want to face their own problems are usually the Hiders.
Now, I don't like to categorize people this way, as it seems so generalized, but in my experience, if you are not taking responsibility for your life and your behavior, then you are a victim of your circumstances, and that's usually not a good place to be.
Hiders, react. They spew venom, play victim or go into the woe-is-me attitude. They feel like the world is against them and they have no control over anything, even themselves. Hiders are afraid of change and don't like to try new things.
If you are someone who is fit and healthy and likes to take good care of yourself, then most likely you are on the Seeker side of the coin. Seekers take stock of their lives and are continually seeing how they can be a better version of themselves. They keep it real, if you know what I mean?
I have worked with many Hiders in my lifetimes. Usually they are overweight, out of shape and looking for every excuse in the book as to why they can't eat healthy or workout. They will say they've tried everything, and nothing works. They feel unlucky and out of control. But the truth is, they are not being truthful to me, and most importantly themselves. They skip workouts, eat foods that aren't good for them and they don't put in the time or keep themselves accountable. Their internal forces are failing them.
Look, I know life is complex and there are many things to manage and handle, but that doesn't mean you let it all go. The best way to manage life when it feels too much is to break it down in manageable pieces. Take responsibility and get real.
Even though it may be complex, it doesn't have to be complicated. Do you want to react to external forces with push-back and anger, or do you want to respond with grace and ease? The best way to do this is to have a plan. External forces will always be there, they will come at you no-matter-what.
So how do you successfully walk that tightrope without getting knocked off? You make decisions from your internal compass, in the moment, that are in alignment with your plan. Your internal forces are paramount. They are everything.
So, how are you currently dealing with what life is throwing at you? Are you screaming at your kids when they get on your nerves? Do you shut down and give your partner the silent treatment after a bad day at work? Are you playing victim to a decision someone else made that affects you? If so, then you need to make a change. This way of reacting to life is stressful and will kill you.
Remember your Big Picture, and your plan will keep you in alignment with yourself and your responses to situations. By changing how you react to what life offers, you can become someone who chooses what to accept and creates they life you want to lead. It just takes practice in learning to recognize the things that don't matter so you can LET THEM GO.
Now get out there and try that on for size. Take a deep breath first.
I get a lot of questions and comments about Shakeology, so I wanted to take the time to post a full Shakeology review. While the Beachbody Shakeology meal replacement shake is a best-seller, there are some people who still have doubts as to the effectiveness of the product due to the nutrition supplement industry’s overall bad reputation…In this Shakeology review, we’ll cover the basic details of the product, discuss the ingredients, and last but not least, what benefits you can expect from Shakeology. We’ll also try to answer the following questions:
Shakeology Review – The BasicsShakeology is much more than just a protein shake. It’s also in a completely different league than your standard, everyday “meal replacement shake”.
In a nutshell, Shakeology is a complete (and super healthy) meal in a glass. Each shake is packed with 70 whole food ingredients that deliver the essential nutrients that the body craves and is often deprived of due to today’s typical unhealthy American diet.
Most Americans eat a steady stream of processed foods that are high in fat and sugar, and the challenge of eating a healthy diet is more difficult than ever. Shakeology offers a solution to that problem, one that is both convenient and affordable.
Is Shakeology a Scam?Let’s be honest. The health and nutrition supplement industry isn’t always trusted or well-respected, and with very good reason. Many of the nutrition supplements being peddled today make huge claims and do very little (if anything) when it comes to providing real benefits to the customer.
With this in mind, it’s no wonder why some people are still skeptical about a possible Shakeology scam.
Fortunately, Beachbody is a company that takes great pride in their reputation and only produces the very best when it comes to health and fitness products. Great care was taken when formulating and sourcing the ingredients contained in Shakeology, and the end result is a product that truly deserves the growing popularity it’s enjoying.
The bottom line is Shakeology isn’t a scam, ripoff, or hoax. It’s a legitimate meal replacement product that delivers essential nutrition in a great-tasting, convenient, and affordable way.
A Review of the Shakeology IngredientsWhile there’s certainly no end to the selection of meal replacement shakes on the market today, most leave a lot to be desired. Loaded with sugar, artificial ingredients, and low-quality ingredients, these “so-called” healthy meal replacement products are anything but.
On the other hand, the ingredients label is where Shakeology truly shines.
When Beachbody began to formulate what would become Shakeology, each ingredient added to the mix was chosen for a very specific reason and sourced from the highest-quality providers available today.
Unlike other meal replacements, Shakeology ingredients are derived from whole food sources — you never have to worry about consuming exotic synthetic extracts or isolates when you drink a Shakeology shake. Also, it’s important to note that Shakeology contains absolutely no artificial sweeteners such as sucralose and aspartame, and the whey protein used in the product is certified to be 100% free of antibiotics.
Shakeology Ingredients: barley grass, wheat grass, ashwagandha powder, oat grass, kamut grass, quinoa, pea fiber, stevia, amaranth, grape seed extract, green tea decaffeinated extract, MSM, spinach powder, hydrilla, blue green algae, astragalus powder, apple pectin powder, spirulina, chlorella, chia seed meal, flax seed meal, yacon, sacha inchi, maca powder, bilberry powder, camu-camu powder, acerola powder, gingko powder, suma powder, schisandra powder, reishi powder, citrus bioflavonoids, cordyceps, acai berry powder, lycium (goji) powder, blueberry powder, pomegranate powder, bifodobacterium longum, lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus bulgaricus, lactobacillus acidophilus DDS-1, lactobacillus casei, streptococcus thermophilus
Shakeology BenefitsShakeology users have reported a wide range of health benefits, ranging from increased energy to lower cholesterol. In addition to providing all of these great benefits, it’s also great to know that Shakeology is certified low glycemic with a 24 GI (glycemic index) rating. A 24 GI rating is extremely low (which is a very good thing), and yet another confirmation of just how healthy this product really is.
In case you’re not familiar with GI ratings and the topic of blood sugar, foods that have high glycemic index ratings cause the body to produce higher levels of insulin which will provide a sugar rush, followed by a crash. Eating a diet that is primarily made up of low-GI foods is a great way to stabilize blood sugar and insulin levels.
Here are some more Shakeology benefits that have been reported by customers:
Superfood Hunter Olien Researches the Newest Shakeology® Superfood: Antioxidant-Rich Coffee Fruit
New Uses for Previously Discarded Coffee Fruit Ensures Less Waste and New Antioxidant SourceFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 16, 2016 – Everyone knows one of the most loved beverages, coffee. But not many people beyond superfood hunter Darin Olien and the product development team at Shakeology® have heard of coffee fruit — or know what makes it special. But that is about to change.
Olien, often called the “Indiana Jones of Superfoods,” toured a coffee plantation in Mexico in January reviewing a proprietary process developed by a partner for processing coffee fruit for the newest Shakeology flavor: Café Latte.
“This is the first time whole coffee fruit is available to the world, which is exciting,” Olien said.
Coffee fruit is the whole fruit of the coffee plant, Coffea Arabica. When the coffee fruit and bean are processed and consumed together they feature higher levels of many potentially beneficial compounds than typical brewed coffee and several unique compounds not found in the coffee bean alone.
How is coffee fruit different from coffee? Coffee fruit has chlorogenic acids, polyphenols, phytonutrients, higher antioxidant potential, and a higher brain benefit than coffee bean alone. It also provides mental clarity without the jitters or crash of a caffeine spike.
“Everyone loves the flavor of coffee, but that’s not why we decided to add coffee fruit to Shakeology Café Latte. It was added for the superfood nutrition it provides that is lost when only the bean is used. The delicious coffee flavor is a nice bonus!”
People have perfected the growing and processing of the coffee bean for centuries. It is one of the most consumed beverages worldwide. But the coffee fruit that surrounds the bean has always been discarded because it spoils so quickly.
Olien pointed out, “Can you imagine just how much coffee fruit has been thrown away over the years? Every time you throw away the fruit and just use the bean, not only are you creating a tremendous amount of unnecessary waste, you are also throwing away a part of the possibility of health!”
Olien, founder of SuperLife.com, Malibu, Calif., and author of “SuperLife: The 5 Forces the Will Make You Healthy, Fit, and Eternally Awesome,” is a renowned authority on nutrition, hydration, and the potency of foods and herbs. His efforts have been profiled numerous times by Treehugger, Business Week and O Magazine. He works closely with thousands of international farmers, growers, and manufacturers to get high-quality, fair trade superfood and herbal commodities out to market.
Superfoods, such as coffee fruit, are nutritional powerhouses that provide a unique, dense mix of plant chemicals and nutrients including antioxidants, polyphenols, phytochemicals, omega-3, vitamins, and essential minerals that go beyond what is normally found in a food and seemingly promote greater health and wellness.
“To create and expand the growing and procurement of these indigenous superfoods takes a dedicated level of involvement,” Olien said. This trip was one of the easiest ones I’ve taken because this new source for coffee fruit far exceeded my expectations. Our supplier in Mexico has absolutely perfected a method for maintaining the highest levels of antioxidants from the coffee fruit.
“Since I’ve started my career there have been many superfoods I’ve discovered that are incredible — but there is no way to bring them to market. Initially that was the case with coffee fruit. I first tried it in Africa while hunting a rare tree bark. We stopped for a break and I grabbed a handful of the bright red berries of the bush right on the side of the trail we were hiking.”
“Since then I’ve always wanted everyone to be able to try it, but the timing wasn’t right,” Olien shared. “Now it is.
Meagan Van Buren lost 30 lbs. with INSANITY + Beachbody Performance supplements. She entered her results into the Beachbody Challenge, and won the $500 Daily Prize for February 17th!
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I gave birth to my daughter in 2011 and my son in 2013. At the time I birthed my son (11.28.13) I weighed over 225lbs! I had a full time job, two small children, AND I was in school to obtain my Master’s Degree in education. I became wrapped up in LIFE, and my health suffered immensely. It was time to take action. I thought, “Oh I am a former athlete, the weight will just melt off in days once I start working out.” Fast forward to me dying on the floor, out of breath, sweating pools everywhere after my first session with Shaun T. I couldn’t even reach my toes during a floor stretch anymore! And I used to be a gymnast!
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
Eating, of course, is always my downfall. I love food. Good food, bad food, worse food … I love it all! I try to eat healthy most days, and I do allow myself the occasional (or two) cheat days every week. Consistency and perseverance is key to anything in life. Yes, I was busy with no extra time, but I made the time. I got up at 5am (one hour earlier than normal) and completed my workouts every day. Next thing I knew my first 60 days were up, and it was time to measure in again. I had lost 16 lbs and 11 inches. I was hoping for more, and I knew deep down the problem wasn’t Shaun T or INSANITY; it was my nutrition. So, I dug deeper. I got out the nutrition package that came with INSANITY and I read it, front to back. I ordered Shakeology and adjusted my eating habits, incorporating more green foods, less processed foods, and (the real kicker) I cut out all carbonated beverages and fruit juices and increased my water intake from 2 bottles to 10 bottles a day. Now I was cooking with fire. After I completed round 2 of INSANITY I surpassed all of my goals, losing an additional 14 lbs and 14 inches, and I fit into a size 6 pants.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I like being able to complete the workouts in the comfort of my own home, on my own time, and still be challenged!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
I am so proud I lost weight and inches. I didn’t think I would notice results as soon as I did. Not only did I lose over 30 lbs thanks to INSANITY, I also gained my self confidence back, increased energy, motivation, and a positive outlook on life. My fitness journey is still going strong! I just completed 2 rounds of INSANITY and 1 round of PiYo, and I am more fit than I have ever been! I am down from a dress size 10 to a six! My goal at first was to lose weight, which I did. Now I want to tone up, and I am. I saw results, and now I am motivated to do the program again.
You can change your life, too. Take the Beachbody Challenge for the tools you need to Decide, Commit, and Succeed! Complete any Beachbody program, and enter your results for a free gift and a chance to win cash and prizes.
The Power of No
No. It’s a little word. And one that has a lot of power.
I see many people’s lives get out of balance because they are not able to practice using that little word. It can even be a struggle for me at times.
Look, we are of no use to anyone if our lives are completely out of balance. Saying no is something that can help you have more balance in your life.
If you are someone that is always on the go, on the move and going from point A to B without taking a breath, this teeny word will be of great use to you.
Often times people don’t say no because they don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings, or look like a party-pooper. And then that person ends up feeling resentful, and run-down.
I know that women in general can struggle with this, especially because women are natural caretakers (Go ladies !)
Balancing Life with No
It’s super important to have balance in your life, and to find a happy medium between your Yin and Yang energy. I am someone who is very Yang-centric; always moving my body, always on the go, traveling and going from here to there. I enjoy this because my purpose is connected to moving, finding solutions and taking action. It works for me because I am so passionate about it.
It may not work well for someone else who needs a little more Yin in their life and doesn’t do well with constant movement and being on the go. You have to know your own personal energy balance and then put your focus there.
The balance between saying yes and no is an important component in this. I had a tremendous lack of balance in that sense when I was younger. I used to say NO all the time and mostly because I was not ready for the opportunities that were coming at me. Fear dictated this lack of balance for me.
You may find that you say yes more often than you want because you are worried about what someone else thinks or letting someone down, as I mentioned above. You need to know when to draw the line. If you are saying yes to things that leave you feeling resentful and you end up missing out on important things in your life, like your morning workout or time you scheduled in to take care of yourself, then it’s time to reevaluate.
Bottom line, you don’t want to burn the candle at both ends and end up being a people pleaser who feels over extended and maxed out. It’s important to take care of yourself first and foremost because this is how other people in our life get the best of us.
So, the lesson here is this: Don’t say no when it comes from fear or laziness, therefore ruining your opportunities to say yes. Do say no when it comes from a need to take care of yourself, therefore increasing your opportunities to say yes.
Saying yes needs to be authentic and not forced. Saying no is the same. So start practicing that balance and checking in with yourself before you give any answer. Let your intuition be your guide.
There’s no shortage of shakes that say they will help you lose weight. They’ve been around for decades.
But only one is the kind of game-changer that helps you lose weight AND feeds your body a daily dose of dense superfood nutrition so you get HEALTHIER, build your metabolism, and improve digestion/regularity at the same time (oh, and it tastes amazing!)
Take your Shakeology!
Recover, Recharge and Rock it
Tony Horton Life
If you are an avid exerciser, and I know you are, one of the most important things you can do for your body is to allow recovery and recharge time. Taking time to let your body recover helps prevent injuries, burn out and induces healing.
In this life of go-go-go, it can be hard to find time to chill-out, relax and get enough sleep. But, not doing these things is a recipe for body and soul deterioration. Balancing your up-time with quality downtime is essential for your well-being on every level.
Sleep to Recharge
Getting enough sleep on a regular basis, not just on the weekends, is super important forstellar health and recovery. When you are asleep, your body heals. It’s hard at work repairing and recharging. Studies have shown that healthy sleep habits actually ‘reboot’ your brain, making room for new knowledge. I see sleep as a key to a successful life, which includes your fitness, your health, your relationships and your career.
It’s imperative to have a bedtime routine to wind down from your day and to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep per night. Your bedroom is a place for sleeping, not working or watching TV. Turning your bedroom into a sanctuary will help you to have quality sleep and recovery time. Turn your electronics off at least an hour before bed, or better yet remove them from your room all-together. Yes, you can live without your cell phone by your bedside table, I promise.
Focus on engaging in a calming activity before bed such as reading, doing crossword puzzles, journaling, light stretching or meditating. This will help your brain to slow down, which in-turn will help to increase productivity as well as induce deeper, more quality snooze time.
Lack of Sleep Sucks
Lack of sleep depletes important hormones in the body, which are responsible for regulating hunger. Did you ever notice that when you don’t sleep, that you crave sugar and carbs? Your lack of zzz’s reduces insulin sensitivity and inhibits your body’s ability to break down carbs properly, so you store them as fat instead of burning them.
Studies have also shown that lack of sleep is a pre-cursor for disease and illness. Your immune system becomes depleted leaving you susceptible to colds and other illnesses. Lack of sleep does not help you to stay on top of life, and The Big Picture.
When I talk about recovery, I don’t want you lying around like a sloth eating Cheetos and drinking beer. Recovery is all about engaging in things to support your body in recovering. Sleep is a great start.
Here are some other ways you can help your body recover after a hard workout, or if you have an injury:
Foam Rolling: As you know if you’ve done P90X2, I’m a huge fan of foam rolling. In fact, I incorporate it into my routine almost daily.
Massage: Getting a massage is a great way to support the body in it’s own natural healing process. And it's great relaxation time away from electronics, to-do lists and the pressures of life.
Light Stretching or yoga: If you’ve done a hardcore workout and feel sore, the best thing to do is stretch those tight muscles. Not doing anything will make them worse because the lactic acid will just continue to build up and create more tightness and pain.
Supplements: Some supplements are great to help the body repair and rebuild. Beachbody’s recovery drink is awesome to mix up right after a workout to give the muscles the glycogen they need. Magnesium is also great for helping the muscles relax and to relieve cramping.
Epsom Salt Bath: Taking a bath in Epsom salts will help your stiff muscles soften and melt. The magnesium and sulfate is absorbed directly into the skin helping the muscles to relax and your nervous system will be soothed as well, so there are numerous benefits to doing this.
If you really want to rock your workouts and have a body that works with you, instead of against you, as well as reducing the risk for injury, engaging in any of these suggestions will help that.
Nutritional "Indiana Jones" Searches Remote Jungles and Mountains for Super Foods
Mar 8, 2012 10:40 PM ET // by Eric Rogell
Darin Olien is “The Ingredient Hunter.” He’s spent much of the last decade circling the globe, traveling to the most remote areas on the planet, in search of the ultimate super foods.
As the developer of Shakeology, the “healthiest meal of the day” shake from fitness behemoth BeachBody (the people who brought you P90X), Olien wanted only the absolute healthiest, most nutritional ingredients for the product. Ingredients that have very powerful antioxidant and adaptogen abilities like acai berry, Camu-Camu, maca root, and Sacha Inchi.
Successfully Used for Millennia
And because you can’t just head down to the corner store for those things, since 2006 he’s been trekking to tiny, isolated villages around the world, and meeting with the local medicine men and shamans to discover what foods they’ve been using to heal and promote health for centuries. Foods that western civilization has never been exposed to, but, as Olien tells me, could hold the key to untold health and wellness.
“This is not us coming up with some magic effect from these foods,” he says. “It’s observing what these ingredients provide, and being humble to what these people have been using successfully for millennia. That’s the power.”
Some of the 70 or so ingredients he has included in Shakeology have caused “incredible and profound” results according to Olien. He’s seen people who were overweight with dangerously high cholesterol drop significant weight and 80 or more points on their cholesterol levels once they drink his shakes. Enough that they can get off their prescription medications.
The newest ingredient he’s tracked down that has him excited is moringa. Olien found it in Senegal, South Africa, and it delivers 10 times the calcium of milk, 20 times the vitamin A of tomatoes, a huge dose of antioxidants, minerals and all the essential amino acids. And Olien plans to add it to Shakeology’s recipe as soon as he can.
A Cure for Disease? So does Olien think these Super Foods he’s finding that have been passed down through generations from shaman to shaman can do more than just lower cholesterol and make us feel better? Absolutely. He’s been working with Dr. William Li at the
Angiogenesis Foundation, and they’ve found that some of these nutrients Olien found can actually inhibit angiogenesis, and without getting into a long and complicated medical explanation, that means they can shut off the things that cause certain diseases, including cancer.
But before you start planning your immortality, Olien’s probably got a few more trips to make, a few more medicine men to talk to, and a few more plants to find.
Alysia Love-Bartley lost 65 lbs in 11 months with PiYo, CIZE, 21 Day Fix, and 21 Day Fix EXTREME. She entered her results into The Beachbody Challenge, and won the $500 Daily Prize for February 3rd!
Alysia is an Independent Beachbody Coach.
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
In January 2015, I was depressed, discouraged, and had no hope whatsoever in losing all the weight that I had gained. While giving birth to my son in 2014, I broke my tailbone, an injury which kept me from working out and losing weight postpartum.o I slipped into depression and ended up gaining weight on top of my pregnancy pounds. In January 2015 is when I hit the scale at 225 lbs and my doctor said I had to do something about it. I cringe every time I hear the word obese, and to be described as obese is such a painful thing. I could deny it and blame it on my injury and pregnancy, but it didn’t make it go away. What made it go away, was working hard this year. Being able to trust programs that worked for so many other people, they just had to work for me.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
I couldn’t look in the mirror and be happy, I wasn’t comfortable in my own skin. How was I starting off my new role as a parent by being overweight and hating myself? I really did hate myself. I was broken inside and out, and looked like hell. Then I saw my husband using Body Beast and drinking Shakeology, and getting really awesome results pretty quickly. I decided that I wanted my own workout program so started with PiYo along with Shakeology. It didn’t look intimidating, it looked relaxing, wrong. It was sweat-tastic, but by the end, my body was flexible again, muscles surrounding my tailbone were stronger and helping hold it in place better and I was down 25lbs! From there, it was an easy choice to continue with Shakeology and try other Beachbody programs. I went on to lose a total of 65lbs this year with PiYo, CIZE, 21DF, and 21DFX. My biggest drops in weight were not just in the beginning of my journey, like you’d think. I ended up losing 9lbs in just three weeks in December!
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody® help you overcome that challenge?
The greatest challenge I faced before taking that first step, was the price, financially I didn’t think I could, but in the bigger picture, I couldn’t afford not to, and thank god I listened to reasoning, or I wouldn’t be where I am at today. The emotional challenges I faced were countless, but looking back seem silly at times, and it helps having the support, encouragement and inspiration that comes with the program purchase. You don’t just purchase a few DVDs of workouts, you get the Beachbody family with that. You have a team of Coaches and other members helping you along, pushing you when you need it the most, listening when you just need an ear, and you really make a whole new group of friends through fitness. There is nothing better than having friends that are interested in the same things, going through the same struggles, and friends that have been where you are and are the result of where you want to be. Nothing is more motivating than that!
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
Each program I finished, I felt was my program, like it was made just for me! My favorite is 21DFX, because its only 3 weeks, and who doesn’t want to drop pant sizes in such a short period of time – doing it the right way! I followed a meal plan of healthy foods and never went hungry. It was hard around the holidays being around such tempting foods, but I’ll tell ya, after 21 days – you break habits and create new ones. Particularly during the three weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas when all of my non-fitness friends were gaining weight, I ended up dropping nine (very noticeable) pounds! Those sugary foods and drinks didn’t taste the same! Too sugary, too salty, there is absolutely nothing better than natural food to me anymore, which makes it even easier to continue to lose weight!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
225lbs to 160lbs, size 16 to size 7/8, over 44 inches! Need I say more?! My results in 2015 achieved with Beachbody programs, Shakeology, and the support of my Beachbody family are huge! I’m not obese. People don’t recognize me now that knew me then, people that I meet now don’t believe that I was ever that big, it’s crazy! Initially, I thought that if I ever could lose the weight, I’d be left with sagging loose skin, but these programs tighten and tone you up as you lose the weight, so for me, that didn’t happen!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
In January, having to say, “I need to lose 70lbs” seemed unrealistic and unobtainable, to the point that I didn’t think it was possible. I’ve lost so much weight, and gained so much determination and confidence. In January, I was unhappy with everything, I even hated my job. Now, here I am in December, I love my body, I love working out, my tailbone is completely stable because of the muscle I’ve builto, and I even landed my dream job and I start January 1st! I have so many more friends, I’m the mom I wanted to be, and I’m the wife I should be. Going into 2016 I am the me I’ve always wanted to be! My original 2015 goals and far surpassed, and my new goals don’t seem so impossible, in fact comparatively, they are right within reach!
How did participating in a Challenge Group help you reach your goals? How did your group support you and keep you accountable?
I was very shy in Challenge Groups at first. I stood on the sidelines so to speak, and watched what others posted, which was enough motivation at first. Eventually, actually participating in the Challenge Groups held me accountable. I had other people asking me questions, people that had been inspiring me, were now seeking my help! By December, I was showing over 52,000 people the before pictures I was so ashamed of even my husband seeing. Try that for accountability! This year I made awesome fitness friends across the country through Beachbody Challenge Groups, whom made me feel like I could do it, because they’ve done it. I learned how and what to eat, non-scale victories need to be celebrated, and sometimes you just need to give the scale time to catch up.
How did your Team Beachbody® Coach support you on your journey?
My Team Beachbody Coach Is actually my best friend, and husband! He inspired me with his own transformation. I saw firsthand the effort and time he put into his diet and exercise. He inspires me daily, and now he says I keep him going! He has the confidence to share his story and help others, and that makes me want to push harder, reach higher, and go far, and hopefully become a Coach too! Through all of the obstacles and surprises on the scale (both good and bad) he keeps me focused and reminds me how far I’ve come and the possibilities are endless.
How did a Beachbody Supplement or Nutritional Product or Program (such as Shakeology® or Beachbody Ultimate Reset®) support your transformation? What are the greatest benefits you gained? Did you see benefits to your energy, sleep, mood/mental clarity, digestion/regularity?
The only way to lose weight that will stay off, is to lose fat, gain muscle, and fuel your body with what it needs – healthy balanced nutrition… and that’s exactly what Shakeology has in it. I know that when I drink my drink, it has all the nutrients I need for the day, and I’m not depriving it by just drinking some diet shake to replace a meal – I’m truly fueling my body!
If You Want to Be Happy, Tell the Big Mouth Inside Your Head to Shut Up
January 27, 2016
“A happy man is too satisfied with the present to dwell too much on the future.” –Albert Einstein
I absolutely love that quote by Albert Einstein, because the present is the only place where your life can happen—not the past, not the future.
The present is also the only place where happiness and peace can be experienced. Sadly though, the past and future are where many people choose to live their lives. And that failure to understand that now is the only moment in which life is actually taking place is a major cause for unhappiness.
Equally important to understand is that whatever happens in the now, there is always a choice in how to respond. How you respond will be the ultimate deciding factor as to the quality of peace and happiness you will have in life.
Fortunately I’ve become aware of the culprit that keeps me from living in and enjoying the current moment. I call it “the big mouth inside my head.” And guess what? We all have one. You can call it whatever you like. Many people call it the ego. Some call it the enemy. Others even call it the devil, which might be appropriate, albeit a little melodramatic, because if you listen to it, there will be hell to pay. I call it the big mouth for one obvious reason: It never shuts up
Symptoms of a big mouth in your head can include worrisome phrases like… If only, I should have, I shouldn’t have, I can’t. Things like… Nobody respects me, I never get a break, I swear I must be cursed.
Guess what? The big mouth is at it again—yapping away.
Other, more intense symptoms include a fear of present and future and a belief that you are not good enough, smart enough or worthy enough to have what you want in life. These beliefs cause you to feel cheated or victimized and force you to lash out and blame, accuse and complain. Catching these negative forces as soon after they are triggered is ideal, because the longer they linger, the more damage they cause.
The way to free yourself from the big mouth inside your head is to be aware of it. You heard me right. Just be aware. Or, as I sometimes like to say, “Awareness is the key that will set you free.” Can I hear a “HALLELUJAH!”? (Sorry. I get a little carried away.)
Breaking old beliefs and habits are dependent upon noticing them as the barriers to happiness that they are. By being aware that you, yourself, are creating these barriers, you will open your mind to other possibilities on how to respond.
In other words, the moment you say, I’m not feeling right, or There is definitely negative stuff going on inside of me that’s controlling my life right now, you instantly shift into a state of awareness and clarity that allows you to expose this great adversary for what it really is: a distorted compilation of old destructive beliefs, mindsets and thought patterns that promote self-doubt and broadcast false truths about yourself.
The real freedom comes when you understand you are not the big mouth (what a relief!) or the loser the big mouth is telling you that you are, but just a bystander who can step back, be aware of its presence and not take action based on erroneous truths.
Awareness provides the window of opportunity to challenge the big mouth and liberate yourself from its toxicity. Within this window of opportunity, you can now choose healthier, more productive ways of viewing situations that would otherwise impede your happiness and success.
Didn’t think you were that powerful, did you?
